Officially, the Roger Vivier book is being published next month by Rizzoli. Eclectic and charged with charm, it includes iconic images by Richard Avedon, Cecil Beaton, David Bailey as well as in-depth interviews with Catherine Deneuve who famously wore Vivier’s buckle shoes in Bunuel’s film Belle de Jour and fellow thespian Cate Blanchett who favors Vivier on the red carpet.

Nevertheless, the resistance not to prelaunch the tome during Paris’s fashion week was too much for the French luxury accessories house. So, Ines de la Fressange – Vivier’s wildly chic ambassadress –and Bruno Frisoni – Vivier’s dandy-like designer – threw a party that heaved with Deneuve, Tilda Swinton, models Stella Tennant and Jessica Stam, Italian principessas such as Alessandra Borghese and fashion magazine honchos like Elle’s Roberta Myers, Harper’s Bazaar’s Glenda Bailey and T’s Deborah Needleman. Huge paper flowers decorated the Vivier flagship outside and continued inside. “Diana Vreeland said, ‘pink is the navy blue of India’ but I say that paper is the sign of a party,” joked de la Fressange, one of France’s fabled style icons.

The mood was up and so it should be for Vivier. They have turned the historic house round and proved that life continues after Roger Vivier – the late founder – who famously invented the stiletto and had clients like Brigitte Bardot, Grace Kelly and Elizabeth Taylor. Indeed, the growing rollcall of celebrities wearing their shoes and handbags include Blanchett, Gwyneth Paltrow, Penelope Cruz, Julianne Moore, Frieda Pinto, Michelle Williams and Marion Cotillard. And then there’s the runaway success of their Prismick handbag line – often spotted on Nicole Kidman’s shoulder – and their jewelled clutch sported by Jennifer Lawrence, this year’s best dressed Oscar winner.
